Stephen E. Feinberg is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and Professor in the Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery, School of Medicine and Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Hospital Dentistry, School of Dentistry, University of Michigan. He has been past Chairman and Associate Chair of Research of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, at the University of Michigan, past Chairman of Section on “Research and Emerging Technologies”, Editorial Board: International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Chairman, Research Committee, International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Research Planning and Technology Assessment, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
In addition, Dr. Feinberg has served on the Biotechnology Advisory Board, AO Foundation, Davos, Switzerland and on the Scientific Advisory Board of the REGEA Institute Regenerative Medicine, Tampere, Finland. Dr. Feinberg is the recipient of the 1976 Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Research Fellowship and the 2004 recipient of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation Research Recognition Award. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to temporomandibular joint surgery and reconstruction and to the use of tissue engineering/regenerative medicine approach to soft and hard tissue reconstruction of the craniomaxillofacial region. Dr. Feinberg is a founding member and chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of a University of Michigan “spin off” biotechnology company, Tissue Regeneration Systems. He has published over 150 articles and book chapters.
Dr. Feinberg is one of the few surgeon-scientists in oral and maxillofacial surgery who have a PhD in addition to their surgical training. He has been a PI or co-Investigator on several previous University, Foundation, NIH and DoD funded grants over the last 25+ years in the area of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. He has also successfully submitted and had approved an investigator-initiated IND to CBER/FDA involving a tissue engineered human oral mucosa as well as the PI on both a Phase I and II clinical trials utilizing a tissue engineered human oral mucosa for intraoral grafting procedures. This background permits him to understand basic experimental design that allows him to interact with his basic research colleagues on a more productive and interactive level. This experience has given him insight and understanding of what it takes to bring a tissue engineered device to treat patients.
Louis G. Mercuri, DDS, MS

Dr. Mercuri is a Cum Laude graduate of Georgetown University School of Dentistry, Washington, DC and received his Certification and Master of Science degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center.
Dr. Mercuri is a Life Member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Retired Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the recipient of the 2009 Oral and Maxillofacial Foundation Research Recognition Award, the 2010 William J. Gies Foundation Distinguished Achievement Award in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In 2011 he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of England Faculty of Dental Surgery. In 2020, he received the inaugural ASTMJS Louis G. Mercuri Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of TMJ Surgeons.
Dr. Mercuri is presently Visiting Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, President of the Institute of Biomaterials, Tribocorrosion, Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago and a Clinical Consultant for TMJ Concepts, Ventura California.
